This reflection by Roger Lewis is meant to challenge you to take ownership of your relationship with God. Not to pretend to be perfect.

The struggle with sin is real—it’s a battle we face every single day. God has given us free will, and with that gift comes responsibility, including personal sovereignty. This means we can’t just sit back and wait for God to swoop in and save us. We’re called to be active participants in defending our spirituality and solving our problems. We work alongside Him through prayer, meditation, thoughtful reflection, and even research. We have to think for ourselves, exercise our free will, and take ownership of our spiritual journey.
God designed us with both free will and a fleshly nature, which is why the fight against sin feels so intense. No matter how hard we try to follow God’s law, we’re going to stumble—we’re going to sin. But that doesn’t give us a free pass to coast through life, lazily giving in to our sinful tendencies and then casually leaning on God to bail us out. Instead, we need to be driven to obey Him. When we fall, we must push through the guilt and self-pity, get back up, and turn to Him in repentance. Trusting God means battling through the human ups and downs that challenge us.
If you stumble, open the Word, read, and pray. It’s our free will that should compel us to build a relationship with God. He demands this of us. Being obedient to Him, even in our failures, requires it. The struggle is real, but it’s through that struggle that we grow closer to Him.
